SRQ County JROTC Marksmanship League - County Champions!!
In a year starting out with the challenges of COVID-19 and working our way through the CDC and Sarasota County guidelines, the Sarasota County JROTC Marksmanship League continued to compete in Virtual/Postal Competitions. In these competitions, teams do not travel as they conduct the same course of fire as others in the same competition at their home range and then all targets are scored and uploaded online.
In the County League, the SMA Rifle Team took 1st Place in 4 of the 5 matches and the County Championship. Our team was led by 9th grader Gabby Ayers who had the top score in the league in the final match of the year, with a 260. Second year junior Noah Broneill was 1 point behind and the 2nd Place Individual while first year junior Liam Ries had a 258, which was the 3rd Place Individual score for the league. The following cadets also competed and improved a great deal over the year: Juliana Courie, Ethan Hylwa, Julia Mello, Cody Ogden and Maria Ospina.
Army JROTC Postal Match and Earning a Spot in the JROTC Nationals!!
The SMA Rifle will represent Army JROTC in the JROTC Virtual Nationals this year as we continue our 16th consecutive year in through the regionals and onto the JROTC Nationals for the 10th straight year and 13 of the last 15 Nationals Competition.
Our Precision team was led by senior Sophia Olazabal as Kendall Goebel, Daniel Delzer and Andersen Suter rounded out the 4 person team and two more competitors were Isabella Evans and freshman Lily Minahan.
Although the Sporter team did not make it through as a team, we did have Gabby Ayers and Noah Broneill earn spots into the next round as individuals. Special recognition to Maria Ospina Echeverry as she performed well with a personal record 471.
